Getting Started

Welcome to growing with Herbs2Hand.

Everything you need to get your first crop going — lighting, sowing, and what to expect.

You've got your module. Now follow the steps below and you'll have fresh herbs on your worktop within the week.

Three steps to your first harvest

Most people are harvesting within 10 days of setting up. Follow these steps in order.

01

Set up your lighting

If your module is under a cabinet, you'll need a grow light. Our guide covers which lights work, positioning, and how many hours per day to run them.

02

Sow your first seeds

Fill the liner with coir, scatter seeds evenly, and slide it into your module. Most herbs are ready to harvest in 7 to 14 days. Here's everything you need to know.

Learn what you're growing

Microgreens are young herb plants harvested at their most nutritious — intense flavour, fast cycle, no garden required. Our guide covers varieties, timing, and what to do with the harvest.

A few things worth knowing from the start

Light is the most common issue

Under-cabinet positions need a grow light — natural light through a cabinet door is rarely enough. A slim LED bar on a 16-hour timer is the standard setup.

Don't overwater

The internal reservoir means the growing liner stays moist from below. Top watering should be minimal — just enough to keep the surface from drying out in the first 48 hours.

Sow more densely than you think

Microgreens are grown at high density. 2–3g of seed per 10cm × 10cm is about right for most varieties.

Stagger your sowings

Sow a second batch 5–7 days after the first. That way you're always approaching harvest — no gap between crops.
